3/4 cup shortening 1 cup sugar 1/4 cup molasses (light) (gold label) 1 egg 2 cups flour 2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp cloves 1/2 tsp ginger 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp salt Melt shortening in 3 or 4 quart saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and cool. Add sugar, molasses and egg. Beat well. Add dry ingredients all at once and beat again. Chill 2 to 3 hours (the longer the better...can even chill overnight) or until firm. Form in 1 inch balls and roll in granulated sugar. Place on greased cookie sheet - about 2 inches apart. Bake in 375 degrees oven for 8 - 10 minutes.
