Cream together:
3/4 cup Crisco shortening
1 beaten egg
1/4 cup molasses
1 cup sugar

Sift together and then add to wet ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. ground cloves

Sift the dry ingredients into the wet ones and mix thoroughly.  
Roll into balls and then roll the balls in sugar.  
I put aluminum foil on the cookie sheet and spray it with pam.  
I use this for the whole batch and the cookies don't stick and clean up is easy.  
Anyway, put the balls on the cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 9-11 minutes (depending on your oven).  
I bake them for 10 minutes.
